Canister System Tips & Tricks Series, Part 2: Abnormal Adhesive Delivery

The canister system is one of the simplest and most efficient adhesive system to use, but sometimes mistakes happen, and things go wrong. This article is part of a series outlining common industry mistakes, and what to do to ensure the same doesn’t happen to you!

Is there little or no adhesive spraying? Are you having problems with low flow or abnormal adhesive delivery? If you’re having any of these problems, there are several things that may have gone wrong.

If the adhesive delivery is abnormal, or not enough adhesive is being delivered, make sure that the valve on the canister and the adjustment nut on the gun are open. If this isn’t the problem, it could be that the hose needs purging. Hold your gun over a scrap substrate, large piece of paper or a waste container, and spray until hose is purged and the adhesive delivery seems normal.

If the adhesive doesn’t seem to be spraying at all, ensure that the canister valve is open, by turning the knob on top of the canister counter-clockwise as far as it will go. If the adhesive is still not spraying, it could be that the hose is blocked. If this is the problem, shut the canister valve off, pull the trigger to release pressure, and carefully remove the hose. Replace the hose and reattach your gun – once the valve is turned back on, the adhesive should spray beautifully!
