Why These Tools Exist

Choosing the wrong adhesive, sealant, or tape for a substrate pairing rarely shows up immediately. It shows up later, as a bond that fails after thermal cycling, UV exposure, or the first hard vibration cycle in the field. These tools are built to catch that kind of mismatch earlier, before a product choice commits you to a full production run.

They're useful at two different points in a project. Early on, when you're specifying materials for a new assembly, they give you a fast first pass before you request samples or a formal recommendation. Later, if a bond or joint in an existing production run isn't performing the way you expected, they're a quick way to sanity-check whether the substrate pairing or the volume ordered was ever right for the application in the first place.

Substrate Compatibility Checker

Different substrates - bare metal, coated metal, composites, plastics, wood, and foam - bring different surface energies, flexibilities, and chemical sensitivities to a joint. A chemistry that bonds beautifully to aluminum can fail on a low-surface-energy plastic, or attack a foam it's supposed to be laminating. Run a quick check on your material pairing before you commit to a formulation, and treat the result as a starting point for testing on your actual production samples, not a substitute for it.

Sealant Coverage Calculator

Sealant is priced and packaged by volume, but specified by joint dimensions. Underestimate a long joint run and you're stopping mid-application to open another cartridge; overestimate a small job and you're paying for material that never leaves the tube. This calculator converts your joint's length, width, and depth into an estimated volume so you can order closer to what the job actually needs, with headroom for the waste and overlap every real installation has.

How to Read Your Results

Both tools give you a starting point, not a final specification. Joint design, service temperature, movement capability, and code requirements on your specific application can all change which product is actually the right fit.
